Maintaining adequate internal control in a small to medium size organization to prevent errors and employee theft is often difficult due to the size of staff/volunteers and the inability to achieve the appropriate level of segregation of duties. This session will address practical and straightforward ways in which groups can maximize internal controls and segregation of duties through the use of compensating controls. Practical ideas for preventing and detecting possible misconduct will be provided. Examples will also be presented for maximizing segregation of duties for 3, 2, and 1-person offices.
