The top three most important items included in the Board Orientation Packet for the Down Syndrome Guild of Dallas are:

    1. Board Member Roles & Responsibilities outlining their commitment and responsibilities throughout their term
    2. Bylaws outlining the legal rules and responsibilities for governance
    3. Current strategic plan outlining the goals and objectives for the organization

What do you find is the most valuable thing to place in the board orientation packet?  Or perhaps it's something quite out-of-the-ordinary but is incredibly useful to your incoming board members?

Our DSA experts told us the following:

"A letter of commitment, outlining the number of meetings the member is expected to attend within a calendar year, and the number of committees they are expected to join."

"We like to add recent press, a list of key supporters, photos of constituents with testimonials, and a list of goals and accomplishments that board members can use as talking points in the community and with the press."

"Make sure your packet includes the time and place of your regularly scheduled meetings. (You may even supply a quick map of the location from a main road.)"

    "A copy of your bylaws!"
