How do you get board members to prioritize attendance at board meetings?

I would say the reasons we do not have this problem often is because the meetings are scheduled way in advance and they are every last Thursday of the month.  So there is not really an excuse that you can't make it.   It's only once a month.

We also have committees on our board and they are responsible to read out at each board meeting.  So there is some accountability to attending.

Also we have a board chairman right who expresses the importance of the meeting and will change meeting dates if a large group cannot attend.  So flexibility in some cases.    I have had this issue happen with board chairs who were more passive.... and did not state their expectations clearly.

Low board meeting attendance can be an issue - especially as we enter the late spring/summer months full of end of school year functions and vacations. What strategies do you employ to help board members make sure that they attend board meetings other than the threat of dismissal from the board? Carrot v stick

I want to tell you what WONDERFUL time I had at the conference. I learned so much and came away with lots of ideas for our organization. -Barb Waddle, The Upside of Downs of Northeast Ohio
